Travelling Camel

We overtook this grumpy camel on the freeway this morning - he didn't look too impressed!
He had two friends with him and I think they are the official Wise man camels we've been spotting in the Christmas pageants! I hope they were off home for a well-earned Christmas break.

Wishing you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas - see you in the New Year!

The Tanks

Also whilst in London we popped into Tate Modern to escape a sudden downpour and discovered The Tanks, their new exhibition space.
The oil tanks of the former power station have been developed into a very atmospheric underground network of concrete rooms - very dark and strange down there!

The boys loved drawing on acetate and projecting their pictures onto the concrete walls - such a cool idea!

Playing the Moldovans ...

Moldovan Movie

I went to see 'Playing the Moldovans at Tennis' at the Evesham Regal this afternoon - it's the true story of Tony Hawks' mission to beat each member of the Moldovan football team at tennis.
It sounds a bit odd.. but it's actually quite a funny and touching film - and all the proceeds go towards Tony Hawks' Moldovan children's charity - see all about the project here

More amazing willow!

Hannah's comment on my last post reminded me of this - how amazing are these playhouses by Judith Needham?? Where can I get some willow?

Amazing willow

These intricate willow sculptures by Laura Ellen Bacon are amazing - she's the artist in residence at Compton Verney gallery in Warwickshire this summer - you can drop in and lend a hand!

A new pier

The Grand Pier at Weston Super Mare is re-opening tomorrow, after burning down in the summer of 2008.
These are some photos I took of the old pier in February 2008...

Ace of Cakes

Ughhh, I hate mornings - especially after having a very long dream about covering a bus in blue fondant icing - that's what happens if you stay up until midnight to watch Ace of Cakes... I love Duff!

Tim Minchin...

I love Tim Minchin, and not just because he's from Perth.

He's written the music for the stage production of Matilda at the RSC in Stratford upon Avon, which I really need to book our tickets for!

(And this one will make you cry...)

Buzzzzzz

I went to visit my parents' bees today - there are a lot of them and they're REALLY LOUD.
Some interesting bee facts:
1 Bees travel up to three miles from their hive to collect pollen
2 The queen bee lives for up to four years laying eggs constantly (poor queen..)
2 To keep the hive cool in the summer some bees have the job of fanning their wings really fast to create a breeze
(Thanks for the bee facts dad:)

Gnarly..

Gnarly Grom Marley is one of our current favourite books - we bought it in Australia for the boys and they love the story of Marley who wants to surf, but first has to learn to swim.
The website's pretty cool with lots of activities which I might be resorting to during these long summer weeks.....
