Block Party

I don't remember my 9th birthday but I'm pretty sure it didn't involve motorbike riding, pinata whacking, sparkler twirling and marshmallow toasting all in the excellent company of an almost full quota of small Moody cousins!

Oh, and chocolate cake of course.

What I read in August

My favourite read this month was...

Frankie and Stankie by Barbara Trapido - coming of age in 1960's South Africa

I also loved...

Thornwood House  Anna Romer - haunting family secrets...

The Railwayman's Wife  Ashley Hay - post-war traumas in a small Australian town

Valentine Grey  Sandi Toksvig - a feisty Victorian girl goes off to fight in the Boer War

The Long Earth

The Long War

The Long Earth and The Long War   Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter - I loved these two really believable tales of parallel Earths - and The Long War was the first book I read on my iPad!

A small friend

I was sat eating my breakfast just now when a very small lizard popped up through the gap in the kitchen window.

We're both quite happy that he's stuck on the other side of the flyscreen!

I think he might become a regular visitor - just chilling out in the sunshine, catching a few flies..

A Little Bit Vintage

Today we went to a vintage rally in the next town over - here are some of my favourites - I tend to go for the slightly worn and rusty over the re-sprayed and polished!

Neighbourhood Photo Safari

I took my camera for a walk this afternoon - mostly because there's a house with a great rusty sign on the way to the beach that I really want a photo of.
But... the people who live there were in the garden and I didn't want to say 'Can I take a photo of your cool rusty sign?' because... it might sound a bit odd (or rude?)

So here are some other things I saw on my walk.

The steps to the beach

A pair of Australian flag thongs that have been there for couple of weeks now

A paddling duck

Some feet...

A collection of shells

Umm, a telegraph pole

A busy bee

Spring flowers

The path to the lookout point.
I want to add an exclamation mark so it says LOOKOUT! instead of just LOOKOUT.
That might scare people though.

Around here...

Spring is in the air and the mozzies are biting already...
Some bits and bobs at home -
