A swarm in May

My mum called us at 8 last night to say that they'd just collected a swarm of bees - so we raced over to their beehives to watch them introduce the bees to one of their empty hives...

My dad emptied the bees onto a white sheet which slopes upwards into the hive- the bees are supposed to automatically start walking upwards - don't know why..

A few of them started going into the hive and then the rest followed in a very organised fashion - no pushing or arguing!

Within about half an hour nearly all the bees were inside - job done!

Lovely May

I do love May - invariably sunny, leaves sprouting, bees buzzing, pollen floating, flowers ...flowering..
And of course, because it's my birthday month - today in fact!
After a less then fun trip to the dentist, we went to The Fleece for tea.

 It was good -

Cider for me....

Beer for him...

And a good climbing tree for them - perfect!

On the wall

I love this mural - it's a numbat - painted in Fremantle, Western Australia by Roa, a Belgian street artist. I can't believe it but it only took him a day to finish... quick work!

And some less famous artwork in Weston Super Mare ;)...
